For nearly two decades, Arsenal’s prestigious scholarship program has offered local high school seniors the opportunity to earn financial assistance from their favorite credit union.
Each year, we award up to a total of $5,400 to deserving students in the St. Louis metro area who are planning to further their education at a college, trade or technical school. Generally, the top finishers receive $1,500 while the runners-up pocket $1,200.
Since 1997, we have distributed $69,850 to 76 exemplary young men and women. We feel these scholarships are a wise investment in the future – theirs and ours, for these individuals are the leaders of tomorrow. With the cost of a college education continuing to climb, our scholarships help lighten the financial burden ahead.
Rules to Apply
Eligible students must have been a primary member of Arsenal for at least one full year prior to the application submission due date (typically Feb. 14 each year) and be on track to graduate from high school in the spring. Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:
To ensure as much objectivity as possible, personal information on all applicants is whited out, including name, school, church/religion and city resided in, before packets are distributed to the judges for scoring. Applicants compete anonymously as “Student A,” “Student B,” etc. Scores are tallied among all the judges. For scholarship consideration, a minimum point total must be reached; the students with the highest totals are then awarded scholarships.
Winners are announced and presented with their scholarships at our annual meeting every April.
Members related to Arsenal employees have an opportunity to earn a scholarship from the credit union, and they are judged exactly the same as all other applicants. Only one scholarship, however, may be awarded each year to a family member (son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter, brother sister) of an employee.
